Step-parents' names may be used, too

by Claire Toynbee

In my Scottish family, my 3x gt grandmother Janet Sinclair (1793-1826) died when her daughters were very young, aged about 1, 4 and 6. Her husband got remarried, to a local shopkeeper, Margaret Inglis -- perhaps someone his first wife had known -- and their stepmother raised the girls. Two of those girls named their first daughter after the stepmother! My 2x gt grandmother Margaret Simpson named her six daughters, in order, Margaret Inglis Taylor, Helen Cox Taylor, Janet StClair Taylor, then Barbara, Euphemia end Elizabeth Taylor.
