Edward Silas Stephens and Dorothy Myrtle Crowder

by Lynn
(Ontario Canada)

I was told that my grandparents homesteaded outside Milden Sask. I have not been able to confirm this. My Mother and her brothers lived there when they were children. Her name was Laura Jewel Stephens and her siblings are James, Clayton, Conrad and Floyd. All are now deceased. My grandpa was from Otter Lake Quebec, buried in Milden Saskatchewan, and my grandma was a child in Leads Ontario area, buried in the Whitby/Oshawa cemetery.

I wanted to know about the sale of Grandpa's homestead, or is it still there? We were never privy to anything as children. We did not even know our grandfather had siblings. But we have been able to contact one of his brother's daughters up in Otter Lake. She knows nothing about her father's brother.

So if you can help with this I would really be grateful.

Lynn, thanks for this inquiry.

Check the Saskatchewan Homesteaders' Index, found at www.saskhomesteads.com . There are three Edward Stephens listed as homesteaders. When you click on the file number, to the left of the name, it gives you instructions on how to go about obtaining copies of the file. It also indicates that, if you know the name of the homesteader and the approximate area where they were located, but not the file name, you can still ask for a copy of the file; it just costs $17, rather than $15. I don't know how recently those pages have been updated, so the prices may be slightly out of date.

Hope that helps, and good luck with it!
